I'm trying to create a bootable Knoppix CD in order to solve an ntfs.sys error (long story) but every time I attempt to start my system from a DVD-RW, I get a message stating 'Selected boot device not available.'
I've never done this before so I'm looking for advice on where I went wrong. With that in mind these are the steps I took in producing my CD/DVD:
Chose my download site from this Knoppix web page. Chose Purdue's http site. Downloaded Knoppix_V5.1CD-2007-01-04-EN.iso (a 696 mb file). There are md5, md5.asc, sha1, and sha1.asc files as well but I didn't download them. As I have no CD burn programs on my computer I used the Windows XP burn utility already installed and copied the file to a DVD-RW.
I edited my BIOS to boot from CD and attempted to run Knoppix. Then I get the above message.
I have a laptop encrypted with Pointsec.I've never done this before so I'm looking for advice on where I went wrong. With that in mind these are the steps I took in producing my CD/DVD:

When login in, it accepts credntials, then hangs on the 'Pointsec is loading Operating System' screen. There is no disk activity.
Loaded drive through Pointsec and booted from NTFS for DOS floppy dirve, this loads and produces an error of 'Error reading sector #0 or BOOT sector is invalid'.
We need to desperately recover a file from the drive and feel we have exhausted all options. Any ideas please?
'- Login in via pointsec

o Windows tried to load, then went back to pointsec
o Windows stopped loading and hung on “Pointsec is loading Operating System
- Set drive as Master in a second machine
o As above
- Set drive as Slave and booted to windows from master drive
o Laptop drive is ‘unformatted’ according to windows, and inaccessible
- Logged in via Pointsec and booted to NTFS for DOS to access drive structure
